NEW DELHI – In a significant move to strengthen the spirit of “Jan Bhagidari” (People’s Participation), the Government of India has extended special invitations to approximately 10,000 guests from across the country to witness the 77th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path on January 26, 2026.

The Ministry of Defence announced that these guests represent a wide cross-section of Indian society, specifically chosen to honor their extraordinary contributions to nation-building and their success as beneficiaries of various national missions. This initiative transforms the traditional parade into a more inclusive “People’s Parade,” moving away from an era of restricted VVIP seating.

Honoring the Architects of New India
The guest list for 2026 is meticulously curated to include achievers who have driven innovation and social change. Among the invitees are:

Innovators and Scientists: Leading researchers from ISRO involved in the Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan missions, as well as experts from DRDO and the Deep Ocean Mission.

Grassroots Achievers: “Lakhpati Didis” from Self-Help Groups, farmers practicing natural farming, and artisans trained under the PM Vishwakarma and Khadi Vikas schemes.

Social Trailblazers: Individuals rehabilitated under the PM SMILE scheme, including transgenders and formerly marginalized citizens, symbolizing a journey of dignity and empowerment.

Youth and Sports Icons: Winners of international para-sports events, World Athletic Championships, and student innovators from Atal Tinkering Laboratories.

A Theme of National Pride: 150 Years of Vande Mataram
The 2026 celebrations carry the profound theme of “150 Years of Vande Mataram.” This milestone will be integrated throughout the event, from the floral decorations at the dais to a special display of paintings by Shri Tejendra Kumar Mitra from 1923, which illustrate the verses of the national song.

In a symbolic shift, the traditional “VVIP” labels for spectator enclosures have been replaced. This year, all seating areas along Kartavya Path are named after major Indian rivers like the Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, and Indus, further rooting the ceremony in the country’s natural and cultural heritage.

Special Arrangements for the Invitees
Beyond their prominent seating at the parade, the 10,000 special guestsβ€”many accompanied by their spousesβ€”will participate in a multi-day itinerary in the national capital. The government has arranged for them to visit landmark locations, including the National War Memorial and the PM Sangrahalay (Prime Ministers’ Museum).

A key highlight for many will be the opportunity to interact directly with Union Ministers, providing a platform for these citizens to share their experiences and feedback on the government initiatives that have impacted their lives.

Security and Chief Guests
While the city prepares for the arrival of European Council President AntΓ³nio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as the Chief Guests, the Delhi Police has implemented a technology-driven security apparatus. Authorities have urged all guests to follow the designated routes and digital invitations to ensure a seamless experience during this historic celebration of India’s sovereignty and progress.
